Q: Can I upgrade from my iAudioInterface?
A: We will accept your original interface as a trade-in, see this page for details.
Q: And can I use the mic from my original iAudioInterface with this new one?
A: No. The original iAudioInterface mic will not work with iAudioInterface2, since the new interface requires a balanced XLR phantom power mic, and the older mic is 1/4" single-ended not phantom-powered.
Q: How do I know that this will work with iPhone 5, or iPad 3?
A: Of course Apple does not discuss unannounced products, but the conventional wisdom on this matter is that now that Apple has migrated to a digital audio interface, they will stick with this going forward for their new products. They have been stable with this now for a year and half, and a lot of people besides us are banking on this interface. So again we cannot guarantee anything, but we feel confident about it remaining compatible.
Q: Why won't this work with my iPhone 3GS, or iPod touch 3?
A: Those devices have analog line inputs, and iAudioInterface2 uses a digital audio link.
Q: Does iAudioInterface2 include the mic shown in the pictures?
A: No. Since so many of our customers have their own microphones, we decided not to include one. AudioControl, our distributor, is making several microphones available with the unit in case you do not have one.
Q: When running on the internal battery, will it also feed power to my iPad?
A: No, that is not possible. Power is sent to the iPad (or other iOS device) only when the external power supply is attached.
Q: Can I run this from a car lighter adapter?
A: Yes! Any power source that supplies 10-18VDC at 1.5A will work. Just make sure you get the connector pin connected to plus 12V.
Q: Why no digital input?
A: Since the iOS device is always the clock master, we would have to include a sample rate converter to match the iOS device clock, which kind of defeats the purpose of a digital input. Also, we are short on panel real estate.
